In the summer of 2012 I travelled from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Portland, Oregon, carrying only a backpack and a recording device. Along the way I played as many pianos as possible. I walked into hotels, bars, theaters, music schools and churches, I played pianos in parks, museums, public streets and living rooms of people I had never met before.
This meeting was a little different. In the living room of a friend of a friend's babysitting address stood a Steinway grand, and she had arranged a little recording session. I could have thirty minutes with the piano, so when she was preparing lunch for her little niece, I swiftly sat down and starting playing.
Later, when I was getting ready to get on a 2,5 day Greyhound bus ride which would take me west, I realized I had forgotten my sunglasses.
